Firestone Walker - Wookey Jack

Firestone Walker Wookey Jack - 8.3% 650ml - Black Rye IPA -  Not quite what to expect for this will be the beginning of this beer journey.

Hype - Not much hype around this seems to be a seasonal ale saw it at a few bars but not many people running in line to order this.

Crackin the bottle - Capped bottle - Nice loud hiss when opened.  Expectations are going to be a nice carbonated ipa.

Initial smell from the bottle - Nice hoppy and malty IPA with small characteristics of chocolate.

Appearance - Poured into a pint glass -  Pours a dark black molasses & root beer color.  The head creates a light hued tinted white foam while taking minimal color of what the beer looks like.  The head pours a thick almost stout like head that takes awhile to settle down.

Smell - from the glass the hop smells have calmed down and are not as intense from the initial smell from the bottle.

First sip - Upfront stout texture in the mouth which changes to a nice carbonated IPA.  Drinks on the lighter  side of an IPA.

Taste - Really sweet dark chocolate notes with a good amount of malt and hops to leave a nice bitterness in your mouth.

Overall - Enjoyable almost sessionable which makes this a tasty beer but could lead to trouble with such masked ABV.  I would buy this again and it is one of the few times i have enjoyed a black IPA.
